What are nude photos?
On the internet, there are nude pictures in the cabin and in agony. They are simply pictures of someone naked, and sometimes partially naked. Some photos online are taken and shared legally, but unfortunately some are also shared without consent. According to Barn og Medier, the Norwegian Media Authority's survey ( Barn og medier 2022: Nakenbilder - medietilsynet.no ), 44% of those between the ages of 13 and 18 answer that they have been sent nude pictures by others.
Why take nude pictures of yourself?
There are many reasons why people take or send nude pictures of themselves. It can be exciting, titillating and can make you feel good. Naked bodies are incredibly beautiful, so it's no wonder that many people like to see others naked. 15% of those between the ages of 13-18 in Norway answer in a survey that they have sent or shared a nude picture of themselves during the year. Nude pictures that are sent around are perhaps sent to a girlfriend as a rule, but there are also many people who send pictures to someone they don't know as well. A full 1/3 of young people between the ages of 13-18 state that they receive nude photos from complete strangers online. A full 13% of those aged between 13-18 say that they have received a request to send/share a nude picture of themselves for payment in the form of money. Scammers and online abusers can often deceive young people (and older people for that matter!) that they will receive payment, and send screenshots of what may look like a real payment. The thing to remember here is that many people lie and have edited pictures of transfers, and deceive their victims with pictures. Then you may experience not being paid, or that you may experience extortion .

What rules apply to nude photos here in Norway?
The Criminal Code says:
- § 305 and § 298 It is not permitted to send sexualized images to anyone under the age of 16, or anyone older without consent.

Section 311 It is basically a criminal offense to TAKE, HAVE or SHARE nude pictures and films of someone under 18 years of age. You are not punished for taking a nude picture of yourself, but of others. This applies regardless of whether you have consent or not!
- Exceptionally, the penalty can be waived if you have a nude picture of someone who thinks it is okay for you to have the picture (for example your girlfriend), given that you are roughly the same age and have consented. In any case, it is illegal to share the image further.
- § 267A and B Gross Sharing / Sharing of offensive images / Nude images. It is not allowed to spread offensive images or videos of others. This law applies to those over the age of 18.
